Befriending Service Success

Befriending team with certificate

Recently our Befriending service was given an award by the Newcastle Building Society.

The scheme gained the award for its contribution to the community. It is coordinated by Sarah Thorogood who has explained that there are two separate schemes, respite sitting, which provides a much needed break for carers who know their charges are in good hands, and the befriending scheme for the lonely.

Sarah said in an article prepared for the local press, “My role is to meet the client, ascertain their need and match these needs to our volunteers. Needs are various, shopping, an outing in the client’s wheelchair or just some company, simply chatting and listening. So many times I am told that the visit of a volunteer is the highlight of the client’s week, something they really look forward to.”
